ABOUT NICOLA MANIERO:
Nicola Maniero (b. 1983, Venice, Italy) is an architect and photographer based in Tokyo since 2010.
Trained at IUAV in Venice, he initially moved to Japan for six months—but stayed. For over fifteen years, he has worked at Kengo Kuma & Associates, where he is currently a Partner, leading major international projects.
His photographic practice developed in parallel with architecture, initially as a personal tool to observe the world—and himself. Over time, it became a language of its own.
He focuses on peripheral urban environments, silent atmospheres, and the tension between presence and absence. Many of his images deal with emotional fragility, dissociation, and the effects of crowded cities on inner life.
Nicola has exhibited his work in Japan and Italy and continues to explore photography as a way to reflect on solitude and psychological states embedded in the urban fabric.
